1. TANGO SOTAVUOSILTA
(translation below)
Niin kuin tanssijalla on kaksi jalkaa, on tangollakin kaksi, toinen marssi, toinen hiljaa hiipii
askelien satu on onnellisten labyrintti
Vain hetken he kuuluvat toisilleen
villi veisu jumalalle sodan jylyn hetkeks vaimentaa
sen polvet todistavat silmänkantamattomiin
edestämme menneet
”me tiesimme, me taisimme, me tiesimme sen” 2x
vaan kissamainen painallus
kun varjo yöhön hiipi
kun varjo yöhön hiipi
ei ole sotilasta enää
on vain kulkuri
Tango from the war years
text&music: Nikolai Blad
Like a dancer has two feet, so has the tango, one marches, the other quietly creeps
the steps tell a tale of the lucky in a labyrinth
when a soldier and a woman are dancing
when their shadows blend together, one can see a bull-headed Minotaur
so the soldier is a prisoner of war
and he owes his freedom to the monster
the dancing couple passes to the center, closing the rite, leaving behind
chimeras crying
when the soldier and the women dance
when their shadows blend together…
Only for a moment they belong to each other
for that moment the cup is full
there is no ache, no shortage, no complaint ...
just the dance
Like a dancer has two feet, so has the tango, one marches, the other creeps
wild hymn to the god quiets the thunder of war for a moment
generations gone as far as the eye can see prove it
"We knew we could, we knew it"
But will the soldier come back alive and with both legs?
in the end there is no winner, no loser
nor will the last steps never go marching
but it is a catlike press
when the shadow sneaked into the night
when the shadow sneaked into the night
there is no soldier anymore
just a tramp

2. Troijan samovaari,
text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
palauttamaan kadotettua kunniaa.
En ole taistelija, enkä sotilas,
olen sotatanner, taistelujen tanner
ollaanko me velkaa niille joilla on enemmän
vai ollaanko me velkaa niille joilla on vähemmän?
vähemmän kuin meillä, enemmän kuin meillä,
kaikilla on joku velka… elämälle!
minun sydämessäni, sydän rinnassani on aina avoin
ja Troijan samovaari hehkuu ja halkeaa
Trojan Samovar
I left Troy in the morning, before cockcrow
There has been fighting, killing and raping so much,
that none of badgess are enough
there’s not enough medals
to restore the lost glory.
I'm not a fighter, and I am not a soldier,
I’m the battlefield
where the troops fought, marched and sow
they sow terror in me
but it is not growing anymore, your fear doesn’t grow more
And Trojan samovar glows and splits
do we owe to those who have more
or to those who have less?
less than us or more than we have,
we all have a debt ... for life!
which keeps hold, the debt keeps us alive
those with most debt, are not necessarily the poorest
others are making allways more money in order to forget their debts ... for life ...
and Trojan samovar glows and splits
these smoke rings far away
where the sea breeze and the desert wind encounter
These rings on the edge of the world
in my heart, the heart in my chest stays always open
and Trojan samovar glows and splits

3. Äidin luonto
text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
sankassa pyryssä
autolla sairaalasta
tuskin näemme tietä
sankassa pyryssä
kuten äiti,
kotimatkalla
Pääsiäisenä
pajunkissa lymyilee
valoa silmuissa
ja hanki hupenee
maan päältä
kuten äiti täältä
vuorenkilpi rehottaa
täydessä kukassa
kun lähdetään kaupunkiin
sekin lähtisi
pojanpojan lakkiaisiin
kuten äiti
lämmin ilta pimenee
vieraat saapuvat
ja suuri yöperhonen
lentää kuistin lampulle
kuokkavieraana
pimeydestä
ja mä tiedän, äiti
sun laulus soi
täällä aina
vaikkei ollut kertosäettä
ei hoosiannaa
se soi,
soi
Mother’s Nature
in a dense snowfall
by car from the hospital
we hardly see the road
in the dense snowfall
like mother,
on the way home
At Easter
pussy willows lurking
light in the loop
and snow disappears
from the ground
like mother from here
Bergenia rampant
in full bloom
when we leave for the city
it would also leave
for the grandson’s student celebration
like mother
warm evening darkens
guests arrive
and a large moth
flies to the porch lamp
a hoe guest
from the darkness
and I know, mom
your song is sung
always here
even though it had no chorus
nor hosianna
it is sung

4. En keksi sanaa, I cannot invent the word
text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
En keksi sanaa jolla metsä kesytetään
Paju kasvaa pellon laidassa
ja puhuu perunoille
Kun syön ne syksyllä
peittää silmäni vihreä kalvo
kuin pajunkuori
josta tehtiin pilli
Aukoista näen
metsän väkeä
aina omilla paikoillaan,
Oksiltaan ja mättäiltään
ne katsovat kuin lapset minua
setä on eksynyt
setä ei tiedä olevansa kotona
En keksi sanaa jolla metsä kesytetään
enkä tunne
viheltelevää pikkuväkeä
omalla polullani
kerran hain
metsästä suojaa
nyt kaipaan
kadunvieren turvaa,
pitkänaamaista kerjäläistä,
kruunaa ja klaavaa
ojennetussa kourassaan
ja sormia jotka punovat koria
täynnä perunoita
ja puheensorinaa
perunoita
ja puheensorinaa
I cannot find the word
I cannot find the word to tame the forest
A willow grows at the edge of the field
and speaks to the potatoes
When I eat them in the fall
my eyes are covered with green film
like willow bark
made into a whistle
Through the openings I see
forest dwellers
always at their own positions
From their branches and hummocks
they consider me like kids
Uncle is lost
Uncle does not know he is at home
I cannot find the word to tame the forest
And I do not recognize
the little creatures whistling
on my path
once I looked for a shelter
from the forest
now I miss
the street side safety
a long-faced beggar,
heads and tails
in a streched out hand
and fingers that weave a basket
full of potatoes
and chatter
potatoes
and chatter

text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
en ole korppikotka, enkä korppikotkille sukua
vaikka istun samaan pöytään korppikotkien kanssa, kaljupäiden kanssa, filmiherrojen kanssa
en ole korppikotka, en niille mitään sukua
istun illallispöytään, aamiaispöytään, lounaspöytään on katettuna mehevä raato, lehmänraato, kamelinraato, antilooppi
en ole korppikotka, en niiden kuvottavaa sukua
vaikka istun samaan pöytään, illallispöytään, on mulla kalju pää ja pitkät koivet ja pussi leuan alla
en ole korppi, korppi, korppi, kot-kot-kot-kotkien sukua
Marabu
I am not a vulture, nor their relative, even though I sit at the same table with them, the baldy and the film lords. I sit to supper, breakfast, lunch is served to the table. There is succulent carrion, carrion cow, camel carcass, antelope. I do not belong to the nauseating family of vultures. Even though I sit at the same dinner table. I have bald head, long legs and a bag under my chin. I am not a vulture.

7. Vähitellen
text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
Onko niin että vähitellen
meistä tulee hulluja,
niin kuuluu olla
ja ihmiset musertuvat toistensa syliin
Vaiko niin vähitellen
toinen hulluus valtaa
mitä enemmän sitä yritetään häätää
se tekee meistä sairaita
alkaa polttaa verta
joka kaikki yhdistää
punaiset sätkynuket hyppivät
kunnes ote kirpoaa
eikö kukaan halua enää
jaksa elää
hulluuden hiljaisista lapsista
tulee vähitellen noidan alkuja
noidan alkukoti korvessa
kuohuu pyhää vaahtoa
lapset kouristelevat
ja tekevät työtä käskettyä
noidan alkukoti on korvessa
Minä en usko voittoon
Enkä senaattorin tai pormestarin
suureen tulevaisuuteen
Aina on uskonnot toisiaan vainonneet
aina kilvan sännätty
vääräuskoisia käännyttämään
minä uskon että
lähtö- ja maaliviiva on sama
olen vastaan ottamassa tällä laululla, tällä viivalla, lootalla
älä sinä vaan hajoa tähän
Tänne on lapsia haudattu
Tiistaisin klo 15 katerpillari käy peittelemässä uudet tulokkaat
noidan alkukoti on
Moskova tai Praha, siellä kuohuu,
minä tiedän
Gradually
Is it so that gradually
we are going mad,
so it’s supposed to be
and people are crushed each other's arms?
Or is it so gradually
another madness takes over
the more you try to evict?
it makes us sick
begins to burn the blood
that unites everybody
red stooges jumping
until grip is lost
and nobody wants anymore
to live
the quiet children of the madness
gradually become witch beginnings
witch's original home in the wilderness
seethes with holy foam
spastic children
are doing the work commanded
witch's original home is in the wilderness
I do not believe in victory
nor in the senator’s or mayor’s great future
Religions have always persecuted each other
always raced to convert the infidels
I believe that
the start and finish line is the same
I'm wellcoming them with this song, on this line and this box
but you do not break down here
there are children buried here
Tuesdays at 15 a bulldozer comes to tuck in the newcomers
the original home of the witch is
Moscow or Prague, there’s foam,
I know

8. Vanha lapio
text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
Kun isä oli kalauttanut minua lapiolla,
irtauduin ruumiista
ja lensin kuin fenix grillikatoksen päälle
tilannetta tarkkailemaan.
Tapettuaan myös siskon ja äidin
isä raahaa meidät ruusujen ja pionien väliin.
hän käyttää lapiota nyt perinteiseen tyyliin
kaivaa meille haudan puutarhaan.
Kaikki sujuu kuten pitikin.
Luin isän ajatuksia kuin avointa kirjaa.
Kuoleman puutarhassa meistä tulee perennoja
perinteiseen tyyliin
Pian kaikki makaavat maan povi poveaan vasten,
ympärillään juuret ja isänmaa,
ja äidin suu on täynnä multaa.
Nopeasti pionin juuret imevät äidinkielestä sanat
ja taivuttavat ne omaan käyttöönsä,
omaksi kasvualustakseen, niin kuin äiti
oli meille kerran kaikki sanat antanut
ja meistä tulee hyvin hiljaisia
isä istahtaa aurinkotuoliin.
Hetken aikaa lapio,
onnellisina
monta sukupolvea
enkä kummittele teille tämän enempää
Old Shovel
When my father had slammed me with a shovel,
I came out of my body
and flew like a phoenix
on the roof of the barbeque canopy
to monitor the situation.
After killing sister and mother, too
Dad drags us in between roses and peonies.
Now he uses the shovel in the traditional style
digs us a grave in the garden.
Soon, we lie in the grave,
the roots and the fatherland around us
and mother's mouth is full of mold.
Quickly the peony roots absorb the words from the mother’s tongue
and conjugate them to their own use,
their own soil, like mother
once gave us words to grow up with
and we become very quiet
father sits down in a sun chair.
For a while, the shovel,
the peonies and his marriage seem almost talkative to him
the old shovel and the marriage lasted everything:
also tenacious roots and scorching springs,
long boring summers and clay soils where frost thrives and longing
May I give you a couple of advice:
please let the roses and the peonies grow
and do not dig in the backyard
geothermal energy or electricity line
so I believe that you can live
in this house
happily
many generations
and I do not haunt you more than this

text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
Viimeisen hitaimman, jaatko sen kanssani?
Kun sankari kostaa, ei katso silmiin,
armoa jaa, lanteiden armoa jaa
Lämmin on taivas ja taivaalla kai kuu
Nainen on laivassa kasvoillaan loistaa
Rakkaiden sanojen, rakkauden sivuseikkojen
kehitteen pimeyden
tuonpuoleisen sulle tuon
mustan mantereen mustan mantereen
Lämmin on taivas ja taivaalla kai kuu
Nainen on laivassa kasvoillaan loistaa
elämän puoleen hän minut nostaa
kasvoillaan loistaa
Viimeisen hitaimman, viimeisen,
viimeisen hitaimman
armoa jaa, lanteiden armoa jaa
The last and slowest
The last of the slowest, will you share it with me?
When the hero takes revenge, doesn’t look in the eyes,
have mercy, mercy of hips
Warm is the sky and the moon in the sky I guess
A woman in a ship, her face shining
Beloved words, side issues of love
the darkness of the developer
transcendent I’ll bring to you
from a black continent, a black continent
Warm is the sky and the moon in the sky I guess
A woman in a ship, her face shining
she lifts me to life
her face shine
The last of the slowest, the last,
the last of the slowest
have mercy, mercy of hips

11. Hai, möhkäkala ja minä
text&music: Nikolai Blad
(translation below)
minulla loppui usko
kun piti odotella uutta
jotain parempaa, nousukautta
niin karvas oli mukavuus, jonka aika tuotti
niin kolkko koko pankkiholvien katedraali
hai kitui eikä viihtynyt
ja pyöri samaa rataa altaassaan
ei koskaan ulapalle, ei koskaan
syvyyksiin päässyt enää pyrstö
kauhistunut kala tuijotti
koskaan tajuamatta pilaa, jonka ihminen vain keksi
ensin lasittui katse
sitten tylsyi hammasrivi, jotei koskaan tarkoitettu hymyilemään
pedosta tuli hauras
lääkityksellä sekin kesti
Näin kierros kierroksen jälkeen
oli akvaariohai pantu esittämään sitä tilaa,
johon aika minut ajaa
onni on kuollut kala museossa
kuolleena saatu ja täytetty vitriiniin
ilman vettä se voi todistaa
vain omaa olemassaoloaan
Möhkäkala
jättiläisen hopealantti
mulkosilmät oikeaa lasia
ilman pyrstöä uinut ja pohdiskellut:
miksi minä ainoana parvestani selvisin?
sain aurinkoa seurailla tai
sukeltaa syvyyksiin
varmasti vaelsi vailla saavutusta,
pelkkä perimä soluissaan
ja suuret silmät ihmetellä elämää,
väkivaltaa, pakokauhua
ja merta, joka oli niin suuri
Shark, Sunfish and I
I ran out of faith
when I had to wait for a new,
something better, an upswing
so bitter was the comfort the time was producing
so dreary the whole bank vault cathedral
the shark languished and suffered
and rotated the same route in its pool
never open sea, never
the depths reached the tail anymore
the fish stared horrified
never realizing the joke man only came up with
first its look got glazed
then the line of teeth got dull, and that line was never meant to smile
beast became brittle
medication helped
Thus, round after round
the shark was put in the aquarium to demonstrate the state,
the time drove me into
happiness is a dead fish in a museum
cought dead and stuffed in a display case
without water it can testify
only its own existence
ocean sunfish
giant’s silver coin
pop eyes made of real glass
without a tail it swam and pondered:
“why am I the only survivor of my shoal?”
I could follow the sun
or dive to the depths
and die old
Now it still reminds people:
only the totally free grow big
its side reflected the moon and the sun
made its stable journey without achievements,
mere heredity in its cells
and big eyes to observe and wonder
the life, violence, panic
and the ocean so large
